"I love hearing everyone's work, and I love how it's been a positive and accepting place for everyone."
- Garrett, Cedar Room Attendee
About the Room
Do you want to dabble in different genres and find the one that's right for you? Have you been unable to find a writing group that appeals to your own genre? Then join us at the all-genre Cedar Room!
This is our first Cedar Rapids Room that we hope will end up splitting up into different genre Rooms, based on need and request in the CR area. Each week we discuss a different topic that can apply to multiple genres.
We've had a vast array of the community join us, from teens to adult published authors and poets. We've held exciting sessions such as: writing habits: integrating writing with life, writer's block, and editing and feedback.
The Cedar Room meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Conference Room, from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
I am a wife and mother working on corporate America that has always wanted to write. I really didn’t know how to start though.
When my son was in 1st grade, he asked for lunchbox notes, which turned into a character named Ninja Bob, a kid Ninja that is not so good at Ninja-ing. His motto is ‘Don’t Doubt It, Do It!’ After sharing on social media, I had numerous friends commenting that I should them into a book. That is my next goal, turning this idea into a series.
My current collection is a set of Christmas books based on the poem Twas the Night Before Christmas. Instead of the normal scene, these books are set in Space, Under the Sea, and in the Garden. There are corresponding coloring/activity books as well! I chose to self-publish my books so I could control them and get them out to the public more quickly.
All of these books can be purchased through Amazon. I’ve also been attending local author and vendor events to sell in person.
